Laura Davenport, Founder

The Blue Julep was founded by Laura after she traded careers as an attorney to pursue her passion in baking and pastry.

My Story

My love for baking and all things sweet is rooted in my southern upbringing. Born and raised a Kentucky girl, I grew up in a home where my mom made supper every night; dessert, always from scratch, was a common staple. She is an amazing cook and baker – my mouth is watering just thinking about her wonderful food! I watched and occasionally worked in her catering and wedding cake business. As a young girl, I immersed myself into all of her cookbooks and cake decorating books. To this day, I’d rather snuggle up with a good cookbook than a novel! After high school, I attended the University of Kentucky (Go Cats!) and graduated with a BS in chemistry. Later, I became an attorney and settled in Jackson with my husband Steve (he was born and raised in Jackson). After having our fifth child, I decided that juggling home and career was not for me, so I stepped away from the practice of law.
